From staff reports

COMPTON—The holiday season is creeping closer, and Mary Lawson, head of The Salvation Army Compton Corps Community Center’s Love Kitchen, is preparing for the soup kitchen’s yearly Thanksgiving and Christmas day meals.

The Love Kitchen, which typically serves scores of downtrodden folks a hot meal each Monday night, plans to serve roughly 300 – 400 individuals on these holidays.

Residents and area businesses are encouraged to assist in this endeavor by making monetary or in-kind donations of food.

The planned menu is: roasted turkey, baked ham, collard greens, cut green beans, oven-cooked brown rice, cream soup gravy, cranberry sauce, fresh candied yams, corn bread, can sodas and bottled water.

Thos interested in volunteering or donating items should call The Salvation Army at (310) 639-0362.
